Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Training Level 4 – Enhanced Awareness

This level of training is for our workforce that hold a designated roles for their organisations for children/young people with SEND requiring enhanced level of knowledge including the Designated Clinical Offer (DCO) and Designated Medical Officer (DMO).
Please note: you must undertake all the modules in this level and also verify completion of each to move to the next training level.


Level 4 Training Outcomes:

Enhanced knowledge, understanding and development of leadership skills in relation to:

  • The Role of the Designated Clinical Officer (DCO) and Designated Medical Officer (DMO)
  • National, regional, and local SEND priorities and plans
  • Strategic and professional leadership across healthcare services on all aspects of SEND, including quality assurance and improvement.
  • The application in practice of advanced knowledge and understanding of: SEND tribunal processes and the role of professional witnesses, Different specialties and professional roles and Curriculum and training.

Module 1 – Designated Medical Officer/Clinical Officer Resources

This module provides links to the CDC resources available which are designed to support DMOs and DCOs, and to develop a shared understandings about the role and their importance in implementing the SEND reforms.

Module 2 – SEND Law Training for Professionals

This provides a comprehensive range of training that looks in detail at the scope of special educational needs and disability law.
